"Catch the Foxes!"

Journal Entry by Kathleen Baxter

Song of Solomon 2:15

"Catch for us the foxes, the little foxes that ruin the vineyards, our vineyards that are in bloom.”

Take a moment to ponder these words… Catch the foxes that ruin the vineyards. You may be asking “What are the foxes?”... The foxes stated in this verse represent those areas in our life that keep us from fulfilling the purposes of God. The foxes are the things that grab our attention, and pull our eyes away from Jesus.

Your next question… “What is the vineyard?” Ah my friend, this is the best part! The vineyard in bloom is our HEART. The Lord is harvesting fruit in our heart. He is constantly at work: changing, transforming, refreshing, and stirring up!

I believe this verse can be directly applied to our worship experience. When we set our heart on Him (a vineyard in bloom) and prepare to worship, often times the number of foxes multiply. I’ve found this time and time again in my own life when I am about to press into worship. WHY? Because the enemy gets nervous. The enemy sees that we are going deep with the Lord. He sees that our lives are on the verge of being totally transformed. He sees the fruit that’s blooming in our lives as we worship the King. His response is to throw everything he possibly can in the way (foxes) to stop this encounter with Jesus.

The foxes in worship may be the lights, sound, music, lyrics… How many times have you heard the sound system feedback, or seen the wrong lyrics on the screen, or even worse had the electricity go out…. Just when you’re on the verge of going deeper?!

The prayer of my heart, as a worshipper in hot pursuit of more of Jesus, is that He will catch and eliminate any and all of the foxes in my life that get in the way! He is more than able, and even better... He WANTS to! Ask God to show you what “things” or areas in your life are distracting you or standing in the way of gaining MORE OF HIM. Father, catch the foxes!
